Parent Consultation
We encourage a team approach to working with children and teens. Therapy with young people is most effective if their parents or caregivers are actively involved. At Spark Psychology, parents and family members can access parenting strategies, behavioural management techniques, and emotional support for their own needs in parenting a child with specific challenges.

A Key Component in Supporting Child Well-Being
Parent consultation is an integral aspect of child psychology practice, focusing on collaboration between clinicians and parents to support a child’s mental health and development. This process typically begins with an initial meeting where the psychologist gathers background information about the child, including developmental history, family dynamics, academic performance, and any presenting concerns. Parents are encouraged to share observations, ask questions, and express their goals for their child’s care.
Throughout the consultation, the psychologist provides education about child development, mental health conditions, and evidence-based interventions. Parents may receive guidance on strategies for managing behavioural challenges, fostering resilience, and supporting emotional regulation. The consultation also serves as a platform for discussing assessment results, treatment options, and progress updates.
Our Parent consultations are:
Collaborative, Confidential, and Respect Family Values and Preferences
They help parents understand their child’s strengths and needs, empower them to make informed decisions, and reinforce the importance of consistent support both at home and in other environments such as school. Follow-up consultations may be scheduled to monitor progress, adjust interventions, and address new concerns as they arise.
